Initial Website Assessment
Fictional example report for Sample & Sons.
Executive summary
Sample & Sons has a working acquisition and booking foundation: traffic grew 20%, while consultation bookings grew 80%. The next business decision is where to focus limited improvement time. Start with trustworthy booking measurement, then make the high-traffic homepage explain the consultation as clearly as the services page. Finish the remaining mobile performance work before investing in a larger campaign. This assessment establishes a baseline across discovery, conversion, content, technical experience, and trust; it does not establish whether the additional bookings became profitable clients.
Business context
A fictional B2B consultancy helping growing service businesses improve operations and customer experience. The primary goal is qualified consultation bookings. The target audience is operations leaders at growing service businesses.
Evidence and findings
Finding 1
The website is generating more opportunities from each visit. Sessions increased from 10,000 to 12,000 and booking events from 200 to 360. The session booking rate rose from 2% to 3%: a one-percentage-point gain, or a 50% relative improvement. At the earlier rate, the current traffic would produce 240 bookings; the remaining 120 illustrate the importance of conversion efficiency. For the owner, this means the website deserves attention as a sales entry point, not just a brochure. Before using the increase in a forecast, reconcile completed booking events with the booking system and identify which consultations meet the business's definition of a suitable prospect.
Finding 2
The busiest entry page is not the strongest booking page. The homepage accounts for 4,800 landing sessions and 72 bookings, a 1.5% rate. Services accounts for 3,200 sessions and 128 bookings, a 4% rate. Visitors who land on these pages can have different intentions, so the gap does not prove that copying services will reproduce its results. It does suggest a practical review: can a new visitor quickly tell whom the consultancy helps, what happens during a consultation, and why booking is worthwhile? Bring those answers forward before adding more sections or sending more traffic.
Finding 3
Technical progress is substantial, with one remaining mobile priority. Homepage mobile LCP improved from 4.2s to 2.6s, CLS from 0.18 to 0.05, and INP from 320ms to 180ms. The main content still appears slightly beyond the 2.5s good LCP threshold. A developer should inspect the largest above-the-fold asset and loading sequence rather than rebuild the entire site. These saved audit results describe the measured experience; they do not prove that speed changes caused the booking increase or represent every visitor's device and network.
Finding 4
Discovery and credibility need to answer buying questions. Search clicks increased from 2,400 to 3,000, but CTR stayed at 3%. The GEO evidence can describe the services, while pricing remains unanswered. The current case study has an author and publication date; its next useful improvement is a clearer problem, intervention, and supported outcome. Buyers need enough context to decide whether to contact the business. Publish how proposals are scoped even when a fixed price would be misleading. Organization schema and crawl access are foundations, not guarantees of search visibility or AI citations.
Recommended next steps
- Priority 1 · Owner + analytics specialist · First week: Define a qualified consultation, test one successful booking and one abandoned attempt, and confirm that book_consultation fires once only on success. Compare the reporting window with booking-system records. Deliverable: a short measurement checklist and a weekly count of bookings, qualified consultations, and attended calls.
- Priority 2 · Owner + copywriter · Weeks 1–2: Rewrite the homepage introduction around audience, problem, consultation scope, and next step. A proposed direction is: 'Operations consulting for growing service teams. Discuss your handoffs, bottlenecks, and priorities in a discovery consultation.' Confirm that promise matches the actual service; link directly to booking and retain useful case-study proof.
- Priority 3 · Developer + owner · Weeks 2–4: Optimize the homepage's largest mobile content asset, check the booking flow on a narrow screen, and address the saved security dependency finding through the normal update process. Record releases separately. Review the next equivalent window before deciding to expand acquisition spend.

Applying this to your business
For your own business, substitute your most valuable website outcome: an estimate request, appointment, demo, or purchase. Identify the landing page with both meaningful traffic and a weak outcome rate. Then check whether the page answers the questions a customer would ask before committing. A local contractor might need service-area and estimate details; a software company might need demo expectations and fit criteria. The useful sequence is the same: verify the outcome, clarify the offer, remove friction, and compare qualified results.
Confidence and limitations
The measurements support the direction of change, not a causal claim. Booking events do not establish revenue or lead quality. Seasonality, channel mix, and measurement changes can affect the comparison. All numbers, business details, and findings are authored examples rather than a live assessment.
How to validate progress
Use the current 3% site booking rate and 1.5% homepage rate as baselines, not promised targets. Review equivalent 28-day windows, page and channel mix, mobile performance, and the newly recorded qualification rate. Continue a change when qualified consultations improve without an unacceptable drop in attendance or fit. If volume rises but quality falls, refine the promise and targeting before buying more visits.
